Q: What is Placeropolis?
A: Placeropolis is the hub, or portal Web site, which links all Gold Country Media community newspaper Web sites together. The new site has advanced features that allow users to become more involved in the community. The site is more up-to-date and user-friendly, meaning it's easier to navigate. This is an interactive site in which we encourage the public to take an active part in getting involved with the news process. On the Placeropolis home page, you can see the top stories and pictures from 9 different newspapers. The news ticker let's you know the most exciting and relevant breaking news headlines. The calendar feature allows you to see upcoming regional events, as well as add your own events into the calendar.
Q: What is Myopolis?
A: Myopolis is the your community site within Placeropolis. Myopolis gives registered users the opportunity to create a personalized site in which they can create a user profile, which includes any personal information they wish to share, as well as photos and video. Myopolis allows you to share stories, pictures, video and information with others in the community.
Q: Why did you redesign the sites? I liked what you had!
A: The online world is dynamic, and the future of community journalism — as we see it — is an interactive one in which you are an important, vital contributor. There's a lot more going on in our communities than we're able to cover. After much consideration, we decided to create our newspaper Web sites into community sites. The new sites are more interactive, offer more features and provide easy access to news in nearby communities. The new sites provide a platform to share stories, pictures, videos and information with others around the community. You can write your own or read others blogs. And you can add your events to the community calendar.
Q: What are the new features of the sites?
A: The new sites have more depth of content and encourage user-generated material. This means we now allow you to share stories, pictures and videos under the Myopolis section of the Web site, as well as create a personal profile and write blogs and comments. The new calendar feature enables you to add community events that can be viewed by everyone, users and non-users.
Registration and posting content
Q: Why do I have to register to post a comment, write a story, or share a photo or video?
A: Our new Web sites give you a greater voice in the community, and with that access comes a greater degree of responsibility, integrity and credibility of authorship. Registration has become standard for such access, and allows us to communicate with you on any site changes, improvements or options. You only have to register once to access all Placeropolis sites, providing your name, hometown and email address, and you may use a username in your online postings. It only takes a few minutes, and your personal information will not be shared with anyone.
Q: What does registering allow me to do?
A: Registering on Myopolis allows you to upload stories, pictures, videos, blogs, and comments. You also can add events to the community calendar. Registered users will be asked to create a username and they may create a personal profile.
Q: What do you do with my information?
A: We ask for your information so we have a database of users. We do not sell your information but need your e-mail address so we can send you notifications to changes on the site as well as inform you if you have been flagged for content and your participation on the site needs to be modified.
Q: When I post a comment, story, photo or video, what happens to it?
A: You can only post a comment if you are a registered user. Once you have a Myopolis account, you may post as many comments as you'd like. The same goes for stories, photos and videos. Content is displayed on the site immediately. If users find a posting to be offensive and in violation of the Web site policy, users can flag the posting for review. The posting then will go to the Placeropolis Web team to be evaluated and possibly taken down.
