Monday Sep 01 2008 comments Labor Day Fire, North of Lincoln By: Photos by Ashley Baer/Auburn Journal -A +A Buy This Photo Now Flames jump across Wise Road Monday afternoon. On the corner of Wise and Crosby Herold Roads, Jim Morrow, who lives in a trailer on Eden, makes frantic phone calls to try to get a horse trailer. "I got two stallions and 14 horses and three dogs, and I don't know where the dogs are," said Morrow, who said that the police released all the animals from their pens once the fire got too near the property. Wise Road fills with thick smoke after the fire jumps the road. Chris Boom and Gary Bebee watch as the billowing smoke fills the air. Firefighters on Gladding Road survey the area. Marsha Stevens stops in front of her neighbors' house as she looks for stray sheep and livestock. Lori Boom watches the fire from in front of her house on Wise Road Monday afternoon, waiting to see if the shifting winds mean that she and her family will have to evacuate. A chimney is all that remains of a house four miles north of Lincoln.
