Monday Jan 16 2012 comments Eyes from Lincoln By: Joe Phelan - special to News Messenger -A +A In 2008, I led a Friendship Force group to Romania and we were greeted there by this lovely young woman who gave each lady in the group a yellow rose. Our group took six specially programmed computers with us donating them to Brasov?s ?Raya de Lumina? (Rays of light) school for blind children. Suzhou is know as the ?Venice of China? because of its bridges and canals. We were part of a Lincoln Hills Sun City groupwhen this was taken. North of Chile?s city of Vina del Mar in Chile we discovered this little coastal village with no harbor nor breakwater. The fishermen just pull their boats out of the water by horse and then sell their fish right there on the sandy beach. Our local friends in Antigua, Guatemala could not understand why I wanted to photograph this old tired house in need of paint ?and then this lady came walking by. This is one of my favorite photos. This man cooking a mix of colorful peppers in a giant wok-like cauldron enjoyed having his photo taken. He was part of a weekly open-air market we encountered in Sete?, France. Sete? is insouthern France. While being home hosted in Cuba we encountered this lady with her cigar in the old part Havana. She was a great subjectand she knew it. She wanted a dollar for the pose. - Peru is a wonderful country with so many things to photograph. The indigenous people there make it a land of color as well with their clothes and blankets.
