Began coaching as a junior varsity assistant at Placer in 1997. In 1999, he was an assistant under coach Dave Humphers at Nevada Union and became the offensive coordinator in 2001. In 2003 he became the coach at Pioneer, a new school in Woodland. He led the Patriots to three league titles before coming to Placer in 2007.Notable: Montoya is a volunteer leader with Young Life, a Christian organization that holds weekly meetings each Monday night.Quotable: "You can tell their kids have a lot of confidence in what they're doing.
