Lincoln girls volleyball improves to 6-0
The Lincoln High girls volleyball team is off to an excellent start, winning 16 of their last 19 sets and improving to 6-0 on the season.
In the Highway 65 battle played in Wheatland Thursday, the Pirates took the second set 25-23. The other three sets were swept by the Fighting Zebras 25-19, 25-20 and 25-15.
Wheatland has a record of 15-3, winning the Dixon Tournament.
Lincoln 3, Center 0
The Cougars of the Pioneer Valley League came calling and fell to 3-2 on the season after a clean sweep by the Zebras.
Lincoln 3, Marysville 0
A visiting Marysville team was turned back 25-11, 25-17 and 25-13.
Lincoln goes on the road to Yuba City and Casa Roble, before returning to host another PVL foe, Bear River Sept. 13.
Foothill Valley League play begins at Oakmont Sept. 17 and at Ponderosa Sept. 19.
Lincoln’s girls cross-country team placed eighth at the traditional Oakmont Invitational held at Maidu Park in Roseville Saturday.
Senior Destiny Everett finished seventh in the event, crossing in a time of 14:46.74 over the 4,000-meter course. Trailing her was Saedy Williamson (15:42.34), Peyton Derepentig (17:22.75), Alexis Hinejosa (18:45.49), Tyler Smith (18:56.82), Tara Budge (19:01.15) and Lauryn Mahoney (22:02.18).
Freshman Cameron Noreen led the Lincoln boys team into the event.
The Zebras finished well back in the pack of 30-plus teams, but ran brilliantly as a group.
Lincoln’s fifth-place runner Matt Parrottee finished just 60 seconds behind Noreen’s time of 14:35.50. Kai Christensen, who came in sixth, was only 62 seconds behind the freshman.
Filling out the middle of the Zebras’ team was Christopher Pickett (15:04.88), Nathan Stewart (15:18.60) and Tyler Nielsen (15:29.20).
