When the community of Lincoln says it supports Lincoln High sports, it does so in a big way.

Tuesday, Fighting Zebras football head coach Chris Bean accepted a check for $10,000 from Direct Tires owner George Hanna. A former football player himself, Hanna said it was a way of giving back what the community has done for him.

“Lincoln’s a great city so I always support the community,” Hanna said. “I used to play football; I know football and I want to see the kids do good, and I know they want that new scoreboard.”

Hanna arrived in Lincoln in 2013 and took over Tires Direct from a friend. He said what attracted him to make that move were the people of Lincoln.

A season ticket holder, Hanna said he definitely plans to be at Lincoln High Friday night for the Zebras’ opener against Oak Ridge.
