Prominent stores locating here an asset to the city

-A +A

While not everyone considers shopping fun, Lincoln residents will appreciate that Sprouts Farmers Market and Ulta Beauty have opened at the Lincoln Crossing Marketplace.

The proof of that appreciation was the 7 a.m. crowd Wednesday of at least 100 shoppers who wanted to be the first customers at the Lincoln Sprouts location during its grand opening.

Both Sprouts and Ulta Beauty are popular shopping destinations throughout the country.

Headquartered in Phoenix, Sprouts opened its first store 16 years ago in Chandler, Arizona and today operates almost 300 stores in 16 states. Its niche is affordable fresh, natural and organic foods. Each Sprouts offers produce, a deli with prepared entrees and side dishes, The Butcher Shop and Fish Market at Sprouts, vitamins and supplements, and bulk foods.

The first Ulta Beauty store opened 25 years ago in the northwest. As of February, Ulta Beauty operates 1,074 retail stores across 48 states and the District of Columbia. The beauty retailer offers more than 20,000 products, from cosmetics, fragrance, skin, hair care products to salon services. And it does a healthy business online too.

And now Lincoln has its own Sprouts Farmers Market, which officially opened Wednesday, and its own Ulta Beauty, which opened two weeks ago, at 115 Ferrari Ranch Road.

But these stores did not locate here without help from city officials.

“I’ve been working closely with property owner John Saca and the broker community to position Lincoln Crossing as a natural home for great retail brands and several national retailers have been monitoring Lincoln,” said city of Lincoln economic development manager Shawn Tillman. “We’ve been working together for over two years to land Sprouts Farmers Market and Ulta Beauty. I think In-N-Out’s location decision, which was initiated by the city, validated the Lincoln market and served as a catalyst for these latest wins.”

And the stores locating here make it easier for residents.

“It’s great news for Lincoln residents for two reasons,” Tillman said. “First, the community now has a grocery serving the west side of town. Second, we no longer have to drive to Roseville to patronize our favorite retailers.”

It has been fascinating listening to conversations in every Lincoln neighborhood and restaurant the past few weeks. The talk among friends, neighbors and acquaintances has been about how they’re looking forward to visiting the two new stores.

We’re excited that Sprouts and Ulta Beauty have opened in Lincoln. Not only because Sprouts offers plenty of healthy options for meals and snacking and also makes life easier for residents who are vegetarians or vegans. And not only because Ulta Beauty has everything all family members can use (men might be surprised there are items just for them).

Those are good reasons to appreciate the two stores locating here. But we’re also excited because corporate Sprouts and corporate Ulta Beauty have shown that Lincoln is a desirable community.

And by residents being able to buy merchandise in Lincoln, the local economy gains a boost. Shopping locally means we have more leisurely time for ourselves and less time we have to spend navigating busy freeways. Plus residents who need a job have another potential employee in their backyard.

Thanks to the city of Lincoln for helping bring these two stores to the area. It is a welcome addition.
