The Whitney High boys soccer team’s Capital Valley Conference troubles were halted Tuesday, as the Wildcats scratched out a 3-1 victory over visiting Del Campo.

Zack Mason scored two goals and Brian Plasencia added another to give the ‘Cats a 3-0 lead going into halftime. Del Campo came back with a goal in the final 40 minutes, but the CVL victory was well in hand.

Sophomore goalkeeper Nolan Hoffart made three saves in the contest.

The win boosted Whitney’s record to 5-4-0, just one game behind Antelope in fourth place. The top four CVC teams receive and automatic bid to the section playoffs.

The Wildcats will get one more shot at the three top teams in the league before the regular season comes to a close.

Bella Vista 3, Whitney 1

Beginning their second run through the CVC, the Wildcats again failed to get back to their winning ways and fell to the Broncos at home Friday. The ‘Cats finished the first round with a 4-3 record.

The ‘Cats beat the Broncos 2-1 Dec. 19 and began a 3-match win streak, before falling to Roseville Jan.17.

Bella Vista followed up that loss to Whitney with a 4-0-2 run and now sits in third place in the CVC. Roseville and Cosumnes Oaks are tied at the top with 6-1-2 conference records.

Antelope 4, Whitney 3

The Wildcats got two first-half goals at Antelope Jan. 23 to match the Titans 2-2 at halftime, but Antelope got the edge in the second half to steal away with a 4-3 victory.

Mason, Abi Daniel and Brandon Sterri had one goal each. Mason had an assist, as did Coleton Matics and Josh Jochims.
