Some Lincoln Hills sports clubs teamed up to go to bat for children of troops deployed out of Beale Air Force Base.

The pickleball and softball clubs collected 350 toys, along with $2,935 in monetary donations, during a drive in November. The cash was used to buy even more gifts at the Lincoln Wal-Mart, which provided a special discount on all purchases.

The net amount was expected to be increased by another round of collections at the Lincoln Hills tennis courts.

The Lions Club of Lincoln also assisted in the campaign.

The gifts will be distributed Dec. 9 at the 9th Reconnaissance Wing (9RW) Children’s Holiday Party at Beale.

Jeff Greenberg, softball club president, spent hours at the field and at the courts to collect the toys. He worked closely with Beale airmen.

Among those who provided logistical support and picked up the toys for delivery were airmen Raymond Mills, Douglas Lorance and Richard Skelly.
