Lincoln Junior Tennis Academy enrollment open
Lincoln High School is launching a junior tennis academy for boys and girls in grades 2-8 beginning Oct. 11. Early registration is encouraged, as these instructional programs fill up fast.
The lessons are given by professional instructors on Tuesdays and Thursdays through Oct. 27; Nov. 1 and 3 have been reserved if any sessions are rained out. The academy is held after school and will run from 3:30-5 p.m.
The program was formatted by the United States Tennis Association and approved by the Western Placer Unified School District. These academies have been held across the country for many years and in the past were hosted locally by Whitney High School.
Peter Schor, event coordinator, said “The boys and girls will be assisted by the Lincoln Hills Tennis Group senior volunteers and many of the Lincoln High varsity and junior varsity tennis players.”
The sessions will be held on the Fighting Zebras’ tennis courts at 790 J St. in Lincoln.
The children are typically separated and taught by age group and skill level. Registrants are encouraged to bring their own rackets, but rackets are available for those who do not have them. Special youth rackets, balls and nets are also provided for the younger players.
Along with teaching tennis for a lifetime of enjoyment, games such as court dice and spin-the-wheel board games are added to make the sessions more fun.
The cost is $85 per registrant, with all proceeds going to support Lincoln High and WPUSD junior tennis.
For more information please email Schor at firstname.lastname@example.org. Make checks payable to “LHS Boosters” – credit cards accepted.
The district is sending out flyers and application forms with students grades 2-8, but Lincoln residents with students home schooled or in private school are also eligible to participate.
