Obamageddon?

Last week on "The View" (ABC), Whoopi Goldberg said that she asked her mother if she thought she would ever see the day when America would have a black president, certain she would answer, "Yes," but was surprised to hear "No." Whoopi's mom was not alone. I never thought it would happen either. How nice to see so many news reports of foreigners cheering his election—I do not recall that ever happening. So many people just eating him up—-for them it's an Obamalicious world. But for those with raging fears about the man, it's Obamageddon. I have met a few of them already and will not repeat the ridiculously stupid and awful things I have heard. I tell them that, in my opinion, being patriotic includes employing the fair-mindedness and good will to at least hope for the best for our elected officials, truly, whether we voted for them or not. Surely, no one likes being on the losing side, but we are Americans first before we are Republicans or Democrats or Independents or whatever.

I am struck, though, by talk about Obama being a savior or the anti-Christ. This may be, in part, the result of minds lost in idolatrous "end times" religion that seeks the rise of a globally-beloved, savior-like man with a Utopian vision for the world. They look for his ascent in their greater desire to witness the Second Coming of Christ, which happens seven years after the anti-Christ brokers a Peace Treaty between ten groups (thought to be ten nations), forming an alliance of unparalleled power upon the planet.

Three of the biggest peddlers of fearful misinformation about the heavily symbolic Book of Revelation are Pastor John Hagee and the authors of the "Left Behind" series, Pastor Tim LaHaye and Jerry Jenkins—-all three of whom have been asked if they think Obama is the anti-Christ. Naturally, they all answered "No." Even if these men privately believed Obama was a viable candidate for becoming the anti-Christ, surely they would not be so mindlessly stupid as to say such a thing publicly.

The Spirit of God and Christ—-the Spirit of Selfless Love—-knows no fear. Do we reconcile Biblical scripture to the Selfless Spirit of God or to selfish, fearful, separatist, superstitious, idolatrous, mystery-laden religion? Fearful teachings about the Book of Revelation are not of God, but man. Every generation since Jesus' crucifixion has looked for His return. Treading The Way of the Spirit has nothing to do with judging Obama as either a savior or the anti-Christ. There are events that must unfold before the identity of the anti-Christ is revealed—events that have yet to occur—events that may not happen for decades or centuries. They may not happen at all, at least not the way some think, because the Book of Revelation's message is not ultimately a literal message, but a spiritual message to each of us about overcoming our "evil" (selfishness; Self) with "good" (Selfless Love; God).

The name Barack Hussein Obama is made up of 18 letters total which, of course, is 6 + 6 + 6 and, well, ya'll know what that means!

HA!

Congratulations to Obama!

I pray for the 'end of days' of fear and selfishness.

Congratulation to Barak Obama and you for keeping the light on for humanity.

Spoken eloquently as a sadness embraces our spirits for those who need to look outside ones own self for answers that can only be found within. These answers which are reflected back into our souls from everything near and far often need only an open eye, heart and mind to be seen.

It is men that corrupt the beauty of life and not the beauty of life that corrupts men.

I don't think Obama is either the savior or the anti-Christ. I think he is a minor-league right-fielder who was promoted as the next Babe Ruth.

Now he is in the big leagues and the pitches are going to be hard, fast and inside.

It will be interesting to see how he handles them.
