Assault suspect still on the loose
Police are looking for a white male suspected of assault with a deadly weapon during a fight Thursday afternoon in front of the Valle Vista apartment complex on First Street. The man, whose name has not been released, is about 25-years-old, 5’8” in 175 pounds, according to police. He has a shaved head, and was wearing blue jeans and black shirt with a white logo on it at the time of the assault. The victim, whose name has also not been released, was punched in the face and struck with a glass bottle, after “a verbal argument between several people that turned into a fight” according to Lincoln Police Lt. David Ibarra. The victim sustained minor injuries, according to Ibarra. “The suspect then fled into the Auburn Creek Apartments when police arrived,” Ibarra said. “We set up a perimeter and did a search of the apartment complex with the assistance of Placer County, including the helicopter.” The helicopter could be heard from at least two blocks away, at one point announcing over the loudspeaker the suspect’s physical description and orders to walk to the nearest police officer with hands up. Ibarra said the police know who the suspect is, but are not releasing his name. “We need to talk with him regarding the incident with the bottle,” Ibarra said, who said this was an “isolated incident,” and the suspect is not considered dangerous. First Street School and Glen Edwards Middle School were on lockdown for a period of time because there were after school programs going on at the schools, according to Western Placer Unified School District superintendent Scott Leaman. “It’s just for safety; nothing happened at the school,” Leaman said, who was with Ibarra and acting Police Chief Paul Shelgren near the Auburn Creek Apartments. “It was just a precaution.” Jonathan Looe, who was visiting Lincoln, was sitting in a car in front of the apartments where the fight broke out, and said he “felt the police did their job.” “I’m thankful for the cops, I’m pretty sure they did a good job,” Looe said. “It was not so scary to me, because there was no shooting.” The incident is still under investigation, according to Ibarra.
