Lincoln High sophomore Alyssa Ruiz chases down the ball during a match against visiting El Camino on Friday.

Lincoln High’s varsity girls soccer team tied Woodland 1-1 on Monday.

Both teams scored in the opening half as Emily McKinnon set-up teammate Hannah Holbrook for Lincoln’s goal. Woodland’s goal came in the opening minute of the match.

The Zebras (4-5-3 overall, 0-1 in the Pioneer Valley League) host Bear River today in a PVL match and will host Faith Christian at 5 p.m. today in a non-league contest. Lincoln’s next PVL match will be at home against Colfax at 7 p.m. on Monday.

Lincoln was beat by visiting Whitney, 4-0, in its PVL opener on March 10 as Whitney scored two goals in each half.

“Whitney is a good, strong and fast team and they have (lots of) players that play year round (soccer) and we only have three or four that play year round,” Lincoln coach Jason Treanor said.

“So we are at a disadvantage there. I don’t think we were mentally ready to compete and we had a team talk right after the game. We talked about effort and being committed to the team and practice and being selfless.”

The Zebras were defeated 4-2 by visiting El Camino two days later.

It was 2-2 at the half as Mariel Iniguez and Alyssa Ruiz both scored for Lincoln.

McKinnon played goalie for the Zebras.

“We played El Camino very well – Emily played very well back there,” Treanor said. “El Camino is very good and has two solid club players in the middle and we gave up two goals at the end.

“We are injured and banged up and just ran out of gas (at the end).”
