Lincoln piling up softball wins
Lincoln High’s varsity softball team pounded Wheatland 11-0 on Tuesday as it improved to 5-2-1 on the season. Stephanie Tofft was a star with her arm (complete game, one hit) and her bat (3-for-4, two RBI, triple) while Nikoli Sharp (3-3, two RBI, double) and Katie Emerson (3-4, three RBI, double, triple) had big days at the plate as well. Visiting Lincoln scored five runs in the second inning, four in the third and two in the sixth. The Zebras went 3-1 over the weekend at the Victory Pre-season Tournament of Champions. They beat Football 20-2, Churchill County of Nevada 14-2 and Carson of Nevada 8-1 and lost to Davis of Modesto 6-1. Sharp (three innings, two runs, no earned runs, two hits, one walk, three strikeouts) and Tofft (two innings, on hit, three strikeouts) combined to shut down the Foothill offense. Sharp (4-5, five runs, three RBI, double, triple, three steals), Tofft (5-5, two runs, five RBI, double, homer, two steals), Ashleigh Stidman (2-3, three runs, double) Kacie Freymond (3-5, four runs, RBI), Shante Wright (2-2, run, RBI, double) and Samantha Whalen (2-4, run, two RBI, double) were Lincoln’s offensive leaders. Sharp (two innings, one run, no earned runs, one hit, one walk, two strikeouts) and Tofft (three innings, two runs, two earned runs, four hits, one walk, four strikeouts) were both solid against Churchill County as well. Emerson had a huge game at the plate, going 3-4 with two homers and five RBI. Sharp (2-3, three runs, two RBI, double, homer), Freymond (2-4, two runs), Wright (2-2, double) and Tofft (1-3, two runs, RBI, double, two steals) were the other leaders for the Zebras. Tofft threw all five innings against Carson (no hits, no walks, one hit batter, one run, no earned runs, 10 strikeouts) and she was also a star at the plate (2-2, run, two RBI, double, triple). Freymond (1-3, run, two RBI) and Shelby Jones (2-3) were also strong for Lincoln. Sharp pitched a complete game against Davis (six innings, two earned runs, seven hits, three walks, four strikeouts) and she also went 3-3 with a run scored. Tofft was 1-3 with a RBI. The Zebras will host Woodland at 4 p.m. Thursday and host Marysville at 3:30 p.m. Friday. Lincoln opens league play at El Dorado at 4 p.m. next Tuesday.
