Budget workshops starting April 6
The city will offer four budget workshops open to Lincoln residents, starting April 6. Anna Jatczak, the city’s new chief financial officer/assistant city manager, will lead the workshops. Jatczak e-mailed that the city is holding the workshops “to get essential input from the City Council and the community on their input on city-provided services.” Each workshop will cover different departments, such as police, fire, parks and recreation, and library services, as well as the City Manager’s Office and administrative services. “It is anticipated that the department heads will be presenting their recommended budget, from an operational perspective,” Jatczak said. “We will be taking questions from the City Council and the community regarding their thoughts and priorities.” Residents will not need to RSVP to attend the workshop, according to Lincoln’s public information officer Jill Thompson. How long each workshop will be is unknown at this time. “That depends on questions and comments (from the community),” Thompson said. The April 6 workshop will cover development, public services and enterprise fund budgets, which will include discussions about economic development, transit, streets, parks and facilities maintenance and solid waste. “In general, the goal is going over what our needs are, what the revenue looks like in that area and how to make the two mesh,” Thompson said. “Along with that, we will take public questions and comments to see what’s important to them.”
