What are Lincoln's city employee earning?
Stephanie Dumm

According to public information officer Jill Thompson on Wednesday, the benefits listed for the Director of Public Services position apply to the positions of Thompson, Mandy Walker, Steve Art, Steve Ambrose and Dave Daly.

Thompson said that the benefits packages of Wegener, Whitt, Jatczak, Acting Police Chief Shelgren and Estep are different because they are under contract and “the benefits are drawn out in contracts.”

Councilwoman Linda Stackpoole said during Tuesday’s City Council meeting that there is the possibility of further salary reductions to help balance next year’s budget.

According to an e-mail from City Manager Jim Estep on Monday, “the furlough cuts for all employees began on July 1, 2009, and are continuing through the remainder of the fiscal year.”

The cuts were made to save as many jobs as possible, he wrote, and to “continue providing the services that those employees provide.”

Estep noted that a number of employees were laid-off even with the furlough cuts.

When asked by The Messenger if further salary reductions are a possibility to help save money this year, Estep wrote Monday that “there is always the option of further salary reductions from all employees.”

“However, they must agree to make those concessions,” Estep wrote, adding that many of the “groups” listed in the chart above “are represented by labor groups with labor agreements in place.”

City Council members, although not city staff, also draw annual salaries.

Mayor Tom Cosgrove makes $6,609. Mayor Pro Tem Linda Stackpoole makes $6,909. Councilmen Spencer Short makes $7,255.44, Paul Joiner makes $7,255 and Kent Nakata makes $6,909.

Also council members have health insurance with the exception of Stackpoole. All have dental and vision insurance; three have life insurance.
