Good news, bad news for Oakmont as teams await pairings
I am still trying to figure out if Jesuit's double-overtime loss to Pleasant Grove Friday night is good news or bad new for Oakmont's boys basketball team.
If my math is correct, and if the section office does not tweak the brackets too much at the top end, it appears that Jesuit will now fall out of the top four in the Division II power ratings, making room for the Vikings.
Woodcreek should be the No. 2 seed in D-II when the brackets are released Sunday afternoon, and it seems that Oakmont may now be at No. 4. If seeding held through first round games, that would mean the Vikings would now host a second round playoff game instead of heading out on the road.
My questions regard the matchup. It was starting to look like the bracket was going to send Oakmont to Yuba City in the second round. I am not sure Jesuit on the Vikings' home court is a better matchup that Yuba City on the road.
The Marauders may have lost two down the stretch, but they are a great team from a strong conference, while Yuba City has not been tested much this year.
Time will tell as the games begin Wednesday night.
