Spencer Short celebrates being sworn in to the State Bar with Police Chief Brian Vizzusi, left, and City Manager Jim Estep.

Tuesday was a milestone for Spencer Short, Lincoln’s mayor.

He was sworn in by retired Superior Court Judge James Garbolino to the State Bar of California and can now practice law.

“The official swearing in ceremony was the culmination of many years of hard work and dedication,” Short said. “This included four years of college, one and a half years of graduate education and three and a half years of law school coupled with an additional six months of study for the bar to achieve this milestone. This has been a lifelong goal and I am extremely proud and humbled by this accomplishment.”

Short is a 1992 Lincoln High School graduate. He graduated from California State University at Sacramento in 1997 with a bachelor’s degree in government and from Golden Gate University in 1999 with a master’s degree in public administration.

He graduated from the University of Pacific-McGeorge School of Law in 2007.

Short also teaches legal subjects at Heald College and Golden Gate University. In addition, he is an owner and broker for S.D. Short & Associates in Lincoln.
