Although the Lincoln High tennis team was defeated in the second round of the Sac-Joaquin Section Division III Playoffs, two players advanced in singles and the team gained some experience it hadn?t had in a decade. The Fighting Zebras ended the Pioneer Valley League regular season 6-4. The blue-and-gold earned second place in league via a tiebreaker over Colfax and Bear River. Lincoln topped Southern League champion Ripon Christian 5-4 in the first round of the playoffs. Brandon Waidmann?s 5-7, 6-4, 6-2 triumph over Ripon?s Darren Boersma broke a 4-4 deadlock. Lincoln senior Kaitlin Fischer made it to the individual singles quarterfinals in sections before losing to Taylor Galya. Galya was the Sierra Valley League?s Most Valuable Player this season. Fischer reached the quarterfinals by defeating Mother Lode League champion Leah Bayers of Calaveras High. Fischer prevailed 6-3, 6-4 over Bayers. The win put Fischer into the top eight Division III singles players. Fischer advanced to sections as runner up in girls singles in the Pioneer Valley League. The senior was defeated by Placer?s Tine Hummel. Hummel went on to win sections with a victory over Galya. Both Fischer and Waidmann were named All League in the PVL.
