Zebras soccer opens league with 3-1 win

Lincoln continues to look strong defeating Bear River

The Lincoln High School varsity boys soccer team opened Pioneer Valley League play by defeating Bear River, 3-1, Tuesday in Lincoln. The Fighting Zebras’ goals were scored by Jose Bocanegro, Ryan Longley, and Pedro Zepeda. The club improved its record to 8-2-1, 1-0 in league. The Bruins fell to 1-3-2 on the season, 0-1 in league. Lincoln also beat Victory Christian High School 1-0, Sept. 20, at home. Senior striker Arley Ibarra, selected on Max Preps as Player of the Week, last week, scored the only goal of the game. It was his sixth of the season. Seniors Bocanegro and Alex Paz assisted him on the play. Lincoln had 27 shots on goal while senior goalkeeper Manuel Vasquez had an easy day and only had to make five saves in the victory. The Vikings fell to 0-7-3 on the season. Cross Country Sept. 23 _The Lincoln High School cross-country team competed in the Yuba-Sutter Invite at Riverfront Park in Marysville. Boys – Jacob Edwards was the first to finish for the Zebras with a time of 20:44. Girls – Abi Lund led the girls varsity squad with a time of 25:36. Kyle Ebert and Katy Mercier both finished fifth overall in the freshman/sophomore races with times of 19:08 and 24:30, respectively. Silvia Fernstrom was sixth for frosh/soph with a time of 24:54.
