The Lincoln High varsity baseball team held its first scrimmage going up against visiting River City and San Juan, Saturday. Fielding a young, 16-man team the Fighting Zebras drew a good crowd in spite of the wind and cool conditions. Lincoln opened with Jake Sola, a sophomore, on the mound and held their own against the Raiders. “The scrimmages went well and the team did OK facing their first competition this season,” said head coach Troy Peterson. “They hit well and fielded OK; the coaches picked up on some base running opportunities.” The boys in blue finished deadlocked for first place in the Pioneer Valley League last season with a 10-5 record. They advanced to Sac-Joaquin Section Playoffs but were unable to go past the first round. The Zebras have six seniors on the roster. The club was scheduled to host Woodcreek, Tuesday, and go on the road for three games next week.
