Zachman, Colfax win PVL outright

CARMICHAEL — Derek Zachman fired a 1-under-par 71 and the Colfax Falcons won the Pioneer Valley League outright at PVL Tournament No. 2 at Ancil Hoffman Golf Club Monday. Colfax shot 383 as a team to win the tournament. Bear River complied a 403 for second place, followed by Placer (423), El Dorado (427), Lincoln (436), Whitney (445) and Mesa Verde (510). Colby Smith of Colfax and Niall Conn of Bear River each shot 72s to tie for second place individual honors. Danny Kraker fired a 77 for the Falcons, followed by Austin Heikila (81), Jordan Hartman (82) and Kyle Young (90). Taylor Daniels shot a 77 for the Bruins. Eddie Millington (79), Greg Remillard (96), Hayden Lavelle (89) and Anthony Ertolla (93) rounded out the top five. Max Schauble led the Hillmen with a 79. Colfax, Bear River and Placer all advanced to the Sac-Joaquin Section Division IV championships at Greenhorn Creek Golf Resort in Angels Camp next Monday. Forest Lake Christian 219, Foresthill 310 at Auburn — Sam Stockton shot a 3-over-par 39 to earn medalist honors and lead the Falcons to victory in their final Central Valley Christian League match Monday at Black Oak Golf Course. Johnny Umamoto shot a 41 and Travis Stokes a 43. Austin Rosene (47) and Colby Shaules (49) rounded out Forest Lake’s top five. Alan Cassell fired a 47 to lead the Wildfires. Forest Lake improved to 7-3 in the CVCL. Depending upon the outcome of the match between Sac Waldorf and Woodland Christian, the Falcons may be alone in second place heading into Thursday’s 18-hole league tournament at Wildhorse Golf Course. If Forest Lake is tied for second, the league tournament will decide which team advances to the sub-section. BASEBALL ROSEVILLE — Ben Consulo pitched a complete game and Jake Bews homered to help Del Oro win its eighth consecutive Sierra Foothill League game, 7-3 over Oakmont Monday. The Golden Eagles (12-11, 10-4 SFL) scored four runs in the first inning and never looked back, surging into second place, a half game ahead of Roseville. Consulo scattered seven hits, striking out four and walking two to improve to 6-1 on the year. Hunter Pahl doubled home two runs in the first inning. Bews hit his second homer of the season in the sixth inning. Kenny Zuvela had two hits, including a double. Del Oro plays at Granite Bay Wednesday at 4 p.m. Center 8, Placer 5, 8 innings — The Hillmen tied the score at 5 in the 6th before falling to the visitors in extra-inning nonleague action. Matt Ross went 3-for-4 with an RBI and Lane Turner also had three hits. Joel Thys had two hits and Spencer Zaputil drove in two runs for Placer (13-5-1, 8-2-1), which resumes Pioneer Valley League play today at Lincoln at 4 p.m.
