The Lincoln High softball team prepared for Pioneer Valley League play by taking on a lot of tough opponents in preseason play.

The Fighting Zebras (5-7) open league play today at Colfax and will host Bear River (8-2) Tuesday.

Lincoln has been riding the arms of freshman Alexis Sheiring and sophomore Hannah Chavez. Sheiring has picked up wins against Wheatland, Carson, Nev., Foothill and Franklin.

The Foothill victory, 18-1, was in preseason tournament play and not conference competition. In pre-league play, the Zebras rank just behind Bear River and Colfax.

In swinging the aluminum for Lincoln, Kendra Honeycutt has a .526 batting average, and Maddie Deschamps and Olivia Honeycutt are both hitting at a .500 clip. The team’s average is .320.

Kendra Honeycutt and Justina Thompson have home runs and Matty Cunningham had three triples. Thompson is the RBI leader with nine and Kendra Honeycutt has five.

The club is averaging less than three errors per game, with Kendra Honeycutt and Kaylee Avilla the only seniors on the team.
