Winters, Thompson sweep twin Modified, Bomber features in Roseville

Scott Winters and David Thompson swept twin main events in the Modified and Bomber divisions on the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series program Saturday night at All American Speedway.

Winters, Rich Lindgren and Jason Philpot finished 1-2-3 in each Modified main. Winters beat Lindgren by 1.684 seconds in the first 40-lap race and registered his quickest lap on the final circuit of the finale around the one-third-mile oval in beating Lindgren by 1.079 seconds.

Winters also topped qualifying at 14.218 seconds and won a heat. Lindgren won the other heat, and Scot Alves took the checkered flag in the dash.

Bomber: Thompson beat Erick Ray by .559 of a second in the first 25-lap feature, which saw 17 of 18 cars finish on the lead lap. Thompson edged Joe Rhodes Jr. by .72 of a second in the second main, which took all of 6 minutes, 48 seconds from green flag to checkered. The first main took just 11 minutes to complete.

Eric Bocksberger was the top qualifier at 15.843. Rick Anable won a heat and the dash, and Richard Perez took the other heat.

Bomber: Top qualifier Richard Poppert Jr. won the first 25-lap main event but missed a sweep when he finished second to Kevin Owens in the second feature.
Dave Silva won the heat and dash and led the first 20 laps of the second main before Owens took the lead.

BMR’s Holmes has engine woes in Vegas

Eric Holmes, driving for Bill McAnally Racing of Roseville, sustained an engine problem and finished 19th in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West Star Nursery 200 on Saturday at The Bullring at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Holmes, a three-time series champion, completed 141 of 200 laps. Defending series champ Greg Pursley and Gene Price Motorsports teammate Dylan Kwasniewski finished 1-2.

BMR driver Cameron Hayley was fifth, and Dylan Hutchison of Fair Oaks was eighth for his second top-10 finish in a row.

The series resumes June 23 with the Pick-N-Pull Racing To Stop Hunger 200 on June 23, part of NASCAR weekend at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma.
