As the Sac-Joaquin Section football playoffs wind down, the matchups get more intense with each weekend.
Of the four teams that are in the hunt for a section crown from the coverage area of Placer Sports, which is most likely to claim a coveted section title?
Placer is the lone local team still standing in the Division IV tournament. The third-seeded Hillmen face No. 4 Sonora in the section semifinal Friday night in Auburn, with the winner to take on the winner of the other matchup between Central Catholic and Modesto Christian, the top two seeds in Division IV-B.
Will the Hillmen get past a Sonora team that has already knocked out PVL rivals Whitney and Lincoln? And if they do, can they handled a powerhouse in the section title game?
The other three are all vying for the same championship as Folsom, Del Oro and Rocklin are in the chase with Grant for the D-II crown.
No. 8 Del Oro already took out the top seed, St. Mary's of Stockton, and will now take a crack at another explosive spread offense as the Golden Eagles travel to Folsom this week. Who will win that battle?
The other semifinal will also be played in Folsom, where Rocklin draws powerful Grant as its next opponent. The Thunder would seem to be an underdog to the defending State Bowl winner, but neither team has lost a game this season.
Can Rocklin knock off Grant? And who will be the ultimate survivor from those four D-II juggernauts.
Today's poll question asks you to tell us which team is most likely to win a section title nine or 10 days from now.
