Whitney High will play at El Dorado in a Pioneer Valley League football game on Friday night. The El Dorado Cougars are 2-5 overall and 0-3 in the PVL. The Cougars have lost to Placer (42-20), Lincoln (42-7) and Colfax (49-20) in league games and lost to Union Mine (49-21) and Ponderosa (50-13) in pre-league contests. They earned pre-league victories over Golden Sierra (41-14) and Encina (47-6). Chris Haskins (172 carries, 1,043 yards, 12 touchdowns) and Jeremy Darr (87-494, three touchdowns) are the main running backs for the Cougars. El Dorado has rushed for 19 touchdowns and thrown for six this season. Whitney (5-2, 3-1) lost its league opener to Lincoln (21-14) but won its next three league games. The Wildcats followed up wins against Colfax (35-7) and Bear River (32-6) with Friday’s 40-14 victory over Mesa Verde. Whitney sophomore quarterback Jake Rodrigues (ankle) and linebacker Conner Riordan (leg) were injured in the game and their status for Friday is not known. Whitney sophomore Kyle Dilorenzo, who threw for a touchdown and scored twice in Friday’s victory over the Mavericks, says the Wildcats are a confident group. “Just a lot of confidence – we are playing hard in practice,” he said. “Blocking really well and playing well and flying around.”
