Dominic Souto scored four runs Monday night, his last came when he launched a fastball over the center-field fence, and propelled the Cardinals to the District 11 Majors Tournament of Champions championship game Tuesday. ?I was so happy,? said Souto, when asked how he felt as he rounded the bases. ? ? [W]e get to go to the championship game.? The Cardinals scored in every inning, including a five-run-fifth inning extended due to an umpire reversal of a call at second base. Center-fielder Brad Sturgis had the play of the game when his second-inning double turned into an inside-the-park home run to give the Cards a commanding 4-0 lead. Tri-City?s offense was on full display in this year?s District 11 tournament. The Red Birds have scored double-digit runs in all three games; outscoring opponents 38-4. Tuesday?s championship game will be against a team that has scored the same number of runs, the Rocklin Yankees. The game will be a rematch of the Top of the Rock game held earlier in the month. Rocklin took that game 6-1 at Twin Oaks Park. ?Tomorrow?s gonna be a tough one,? said Cardinals Manager Greg Hopping after the game. ?They have a great offense and sound defense.?
