Tri-City 9-10 All Stars send Lincoln into elimination bracket

Tri-City stayed undefeated in the second round of the District 11, Area 1 9-10 All Stars tournament by downing Lincoln 3-1 Tuesday. Tri-City went up 2-0 when Robert Jones scored in the second inning and teammate Shane Connors crossed the plate in the third. Lincoln closed the gap to 2-1 when Jacob Lemus came home on Gavin Young?s hit. However, a second runner was called out at the plate trying to tie the score. Lincoln loaded the bases twice in the game but was unable to come up with another run. Jones opened the game on the mound for Tri-City and went through 2 2/3 innings before being relieved by Ryan King. Austin Gilbreath came on in the fifth inning to close out the game. Tri-City?s Shane Connors was 2-for-3 at the plate and scored two of his club?s runs. Jones also scored for the winning club as he and King were the only other players to get hits for Tri-City. Lincoln had nine hits in the contest with Lemus going 2-4. Also getting hits were Turner, Dylan Rhodes, Michael Sargent, Young, Grady Manley, Aiden Isola and Michael Newsome. Young was the starting pitcher for Lincoln and was relieved by Tommy Turner in the second inning. Bear River 11, Auburn 10 In the earlier game, Bear River and Auburn slugged it out before Bear River?s All Stars got the upper hand in the bottom of the sixth inning. Auburn?s Jaylen Cox put Auburn up 10-9 in the top of the sixth but it wouldn?t hold up. In the bottom half of the inning, Colten Jennings took the first pitch he saw and drove it to the left-field fence to drive in Dean Hopper and Cole Winters for the final two runs of the game. Tonight, Tri-City will go up against Rocklin in the late game. Lincoln and Bear River will battle at 5 to see which team stays alive.
