Glen Edwards Middle School and Twelve Bridges Middle School have a lecture series called Topics of Interest to Parents and Students. This trimester, the TIPS series will feature cyber bullying. Cyber bullying is harassment of another using an electronic device such as a cell phone or computer. Many students are cyber-bullied, but do not report it and do not know how to stop it. There will be a presentation explaining how parents can help their kids with strategies for dealing with technology issues. One of the things talked about will be cell phones. Cell phones are a necessity for many families. Parents use them to stay in touch with kids. They are not allowed at school, but some students use them inappropriately when they take pictures or videos of others and post it on the Internet. Some students stay up very late at night and talk to or text others. This behavior can cause poor school performance due to lack of sleep or if they put this ahead of homework. The TIPS program helps Lincoln families. Please come with your student. This trimester’s TIPS discussion will be held on Sept. 25 at the Glen Edwards Middle School Spirit center. If you have any questions or input about this TIPS lecture, call Brandon Lopez, a sixth-grade teacher at Glen Edwards, at 645-6370.
