MCBEAN PARK – The amazing comeback of the Lincoln Little League Majors Pirates ended Friday night when the No. 1 Braves rallied for a 7-5 victory.

The Bucs started the season in the standing’s cellar and worked their way back into prominence to tie for fourth. They reached the semifinals of the postseason tournament, but couldn’t turn the tables on the Georgia boys.

The Braves’ victory assured the Cardinals of a spot in the District 11 Tournament of Champions, along with the Atlanta nine.

The Braves and Cardinals will meet today at 2 p.m. in the championship game. Should the Braves win, there would be a second game at 7:15 on Monday since the Cardinals would have only one loss.

In Friday’s match up, the Braves erased a 5-3 lead by scoring four runs in the bottom of the fifth and then holding off the Pirates. The Bucs were stung by multiple errors and left nine runners on base in the contest.

Braves’ offense: Dylan Rhodes (run), Michael Newsom (double, 2runs), Clayton Coats (single, run), Blake Havey (run), Brett Woolley (run), Ryan Knight (2-2, run), Steward Eskridge (double) and Thomas Reynolds (single, 2RBI).

Pirates’ offense: Devin Brown (2-4, triple, 2runs), J.T. Willis (single, run, RBI), Jared Kelty (run), Tommy Turner (2-3, 2RBI) and Liam Trott (run).

Braves’ pitching: Newsom (4 1/3 ip, 7K), Rhodes (1 ip, 2K) and Coats (2/3 ip).

Pirates’ pitching: Brown (3 ip, 2K), Willis (2 ip, K).

The Atlanta nine committed two errors in the game, the Pittsburgh nine five.
