Three pedestrians were injured on Wednesday morning while crossing Sun City Boulevard. Lincoln public information officer Jill Thompson said Wednesday that Lincoln police officers were dispatched at 9 a.m. to the intersection of Sun City Boulevard and Tiger Lily Lane for a vehicle versus pedestrian traffic collision. Officers found three adult females ?on the ground? in the intersection, and the vehicle involved, a Subaru, stopped in the intersection, Thompson said. The vehicle?s driver, a 71-year-old male, told officers that he ?fell asleep at the wheel just prior to failing to stop for the stop sign and hitting the pedestrians,? Thompson said. It is unknown as of press time if the driver fell asleep due to a medical condition. Two of the victims were 61-years-old, and the third is 64, according to Thompson. Both the victims and driver are all Lincoln residents. Medical aid was provided to the injured victims by Lincoln Fire Department and American Medical Response ambulance personnel. Two of the pedestrians had moderate injuries and one had minor injuries, Thompson said. The three victims were transported to Sutter Roseville Medical Center for treatment. Sgt. Kevin Klemp said Thursday that two of the patients have been treated and released. The third victim is still at the hospital ?for observation because of a head injury.? The driver was issued a citation for failing to stop at the stop sign, and a request will be sent to the DMV for a re-examination of the driver, according to Thompson. -Stephanie Dumm
