Garnering gold for the local players were Linda Brandelius and D.J. Cox in mixed doubles. Sharon Klotz and Linda Brandelius also gathered gold in the womens skill level 3.0 competition. Roger Lopossa was the silver medalist competing in mens skill level 3.0. Garnering bronze for the Lincoln Hills athletes were Leonard Lyubovny in mens singles, and Klotz teamed up with Tom Gatti to medal in mixed doubles. In September, the team traveled to Meadow Vista to compete in the Auburn Recreation District’s tournament and picked up three medals. Pickleball is a cross between ping-pong and tennis, and played on a court about 1/4 the size of a tennis court. The paddle is 25 percent larger than a ping pong paddle, usually made of graphite. The ball is a wiffle ball. “Pickles” was the name of the originator’s family dog. The game was created 25 years ago, and named after the dog when it wouldn’t stop chasing the ball. Like tennis, the game can be played by two or four people. The first player, or team, to reach 11 points, two or more points ahead, wins. A score can only be made when serving. 25th Huntsman World Senior Games St. George, Utah Sun City Lincoln Hills Pickleball medalists Gold Medal Mixed Doubles - Linda Brandelius and D.J.
