St. James helps bring Christmas spirit to residents

The stats: 100 children, 12 dozen hot dogs and buns, a few gallons of juice, many cookies, presents and Santa. Tuesday evening, almost 100 neighborhood children gathered at the Martin Hall of St. James Episcopal church for a Christmas party. One month ago, the families of these children received a Thanksgiving turkey dinner and a form for “Letters to Santa” with their wish list for Christmas. Members of the church took these “Letters to Santa” and filled the requests. Tuesday, each child received the presents he or she requested, wrapped and ready to be opened on Christmas. Marines from Toys for Tots provided a room full of toys from which each child could select one toy in addition to the wrapped presents. As the 27 families left the party, each was given a pork roast for Christmas dinner. Members of the church served and smiled as dreams came true before their eyes. This is an annual event sponsored by St. James. Paul Beach, Lincoln
