BROOKS _ Lincoln’s Pasquale “Pete” Sprague earned the Golf Channel’s AM Tour Bridgestone Player Achievement Award in his first year of competition. Sprague made a rapid climb through the Hogan (handicap index 8.0-11.9) and Palmer (4.0-7.9) flights to reach the Championship Division in a little over 12 months. Beginning in January, Sprague had three firsts and one second-place finish in seven tournaments played. “I am improving daily,” said Sprague, who now prepares for the AM Tour’s National Championship in Ponte Vedra, Fla., Sept. 10-13. “Yes, I still have a lot of work to do but overall I was happy with this season.” Sprague tied for fifth in the Sacramento-Stockton Tour Championship played at Yocha-De-He Golf Club in Brooks last weekend. His round of 76 featured a 351-yard drive and two birdies. The tournament was highlighted with a hole-in-one by tournament winner Eric Morgan of Rocklin. “[W]e all started cheering in celebration for him,” Sprague said. “That is the beautiful part of the AM Tour; everyone is happy for someone’s success.” Sprague is a student of the Will Robins Golf Academy, Turkey Creek Golf Club. He and a Will Robins’ team of five led by pro and academy coach Brian Little carded a team-total 206 at a PRO-AM tournament held at El Mercado Country Club in Davis a couple weeks ago. Little shot 75 and Sprague 76. Lincoln teammate Dan Martinez shot an 88. The tournament was a benefit for a local junior golf program.
