The Lincoln Girls Softball 10-and-under All Stars fell a bit short of the ASA Greater Sacramento Softball Association tournament championship Sunday, but their incredible comeback after losing the opening game earned them a trip to the ASA Western ?B? Nationals in Spokane, Wash., in July. In spite of a 12-0 loss to Rocklin?s Thundercats in the title game, the long road the locals took to get there was the real story this past weekend. Coming off a Friday night loss to the Five Cities All Stars, the Lincoln girls returned to the field on Saturday to down Elk Grove Gold and Roseville Thunder Red. It took a rally in both games to pull off the victories but Lincoln pushed the winning runs across in the final stanzas of each contest to go 2-1 in the tournament. Coming into Sunday?s bracket as the No. 6 seed meant rolling out of bed for a 9:45 a.m. game against Carmichael. After erasing a 2-0 deficit and cruising to a 17-2 triumph against Carmichael?s All Stars, Lincoln had to next face No. 3 Folsom Freedom. Tied 1-1 after one inning, the locals blew open the game with a seven-run rally that came on six back-to-back hits and used a solid defense the rest of the way for a 9-2 victory. Lincoln pitcher Natali Martinez used just three pitches to retire the Freedom in the fourth inning. That meant a rematch with Five Cities, a club they had lost to three times this season. However, it would be Lincoln?s turn as they slammed the door on their opponents for a 10-0 shutout. Only four Five Cities? batters reached base in the game. That landed the locals in the championship contest and a guaranteed ticket to Spokane. More information on Lincoln Girls Softball can be found online at or ?like them? at
