Lincoln Little League’s Major all-stars had their tournament run come to a close with an 8-2 loss to Rocklin last week. This baseball game was played July 8 in Rocklin. Tri-City beat Rocklin 6-5 the next day to claim the Area 1 title before going on to win the District 11 championship. Lincoln opened the tournament with a 10-6 victory over Rocklin before losing to Tri-City by way of the 10-run mercy rule. “The kids were outstanding . . . It was a very good group to work with,” Lincoln manager Greg Borgerson said. “We were able to win one game at least and it’s because the kids worked hard and they really did learn. And you can definitely see (that it’s a talented group).” Austin Harris started on the mound for Lincoln in the final game and kept the score close through the first few innings. Lincoln catcher Dane Stimbert homered in two games while Jeremiah Moore, Harris and Isaiah Garcia also homered in the tournament. The rest of the Lincoln roster consisted of Mitchell McGuire, Ben Lewis, Jordan Ferguson, Jordan Stone, Steven Catudal, Angelo Bonino, Luke Suchomel, Brent Zoucha and Adam Dudley. Borgerson talked about managing the all-stars in the popular Major division. “I think it’s the first time that they see what the next level brings them,” he said. “It’s no longer just learning how to catch the ball and throw to first. “They are learning team defense as well as bunt defense, first and third (base), and learning how to bunt. “A lot of the all stars have never played outfield before so they are learning that. I think I had a team of 12 shortstops (and moving around the diamond is) an eye opener for a lot of them. “Learning how to play the whole game, instead of just bits and pieces of it.”
