Rates high, household small

-A +A
I read your column in The Lincoln News Messenger (Feb. 2, page A4, “Give input for utility rate fees by Feb. 22”) with interest. The water rates appear to be very high compared to other communities. Our total for last year was $979, averaging $81.60 per month, a figure that seems high for two people living in a small house. The Lincoln water department inspected the meter and said it was OK. We have normal landscaping with no lawn, only trees and shrubs with a drip system. We only water enough to keep our yard from dying. I don’t understand why the rates are so high when you go over the minimum. The water rates should be adjusted to compare with water rates in other communities. Property owners should not be punished for having a nice yard with healthy plants. Bill Holman, Lincoln
