Rains put a damper on Little League Baseball
By: Staff Report
Juniors’ teams get in one game
The recent rains were needed but arrived at a bad time as the opening of Little League Baseball season has suffered a number of game cancellations. Many of those games will be rescheduled depending on time available. The Little Leagues of Lincoln, Tri-City, and Rocklin have combined their Juniors division because of the limited number of teams in each league. Although Rocklin Little League has seven clubs, Lincoln (2) and Tri-City (3) comprise only five. All three leagues have teams at the top of the standings since each club has played only one game. Lincoln’s Ducks (appropriately named for the weather), Rocklin’s Red Sox, Pirates, and Athletics, and Tri-City’s Dodgers and Giants have all won. Tri-City’s Giants have shown the most plate power scoring 19 runs in its first outing. Rocklin’s Pirates scored 13 and their Yankees 10. Unfortunately for the Yanks their runs came in a game against the Giants No team has pitched a shutout so far, although the Tri-City Dodgers did hold that league’s Angels to one run. In the remaining three games played the margin of victory has been one run. Although there were spots of sunshine last week, the forecast for the coming week looks good for the Water Resources Board, but not so hot for baseball. However, Mother Nature can be unpredictable and fans can only hope she, too, loves baseball.
