Sew Katie Jean, a quilt shop located in downtown Lincoln, has been making pillowcases for soldiers since a year ago March.

To celebrate the 1-year milestone, store owner Katie Trott set a goal of sewing 100 pillowcases by April 30.

“We first met Birdie Galbraith from Adopt-A-Pillowcase for a Soldier through Facebook,” Trott said. “When I first opened my quilt shop, I wanted to find an organization that we could support and sew for. Quilters are a generous group of people and we love our troops!”

Trott and Galbraith have taught free classes to the public on how to sew a simple pillowcase.

“Sending soldiers a handmade pillowcase helps to remind them that others are thinking of them and we at home support them,” Trott said.

Both women have family members serving in the military.

To send a handmade pillowcase to a soldier, visit Trott at Sew Katie Jean, 603 5th St. or call her at 209-3930.
