Police ride-alongs open to councilmembers

Ride-alongs with the Lincoln Police Department are an option for all five City Councilmen, according to Lincoln Police Chief Paul Shelgren. “The councilpersons know we are open to ride-alongs any time they want it,” Shelgren said. “It’s an open invitation to them.” The police department currently does not have plans for an event similar to the one the fire department did last week with city administration and the council. “We welcome the council and all of our citizens (for ride-alongs with a police officer) as long as we have the staffing,” Shelgren said. “I think it’s just a great way to keep in touch with our offices see what’s going on on the streets and in the community, to see what kind of issues we are facing.” -Stephanie Dumm
