Pirates end on high note with win over Angels
The Pirates’ Tommy Turner shut out the Angels in the final regular-season game of the Lincoln Little League Majors season Thursday night.
Turner gave up just four hits and no walks, while fanning nine. The Bucs picked up just two hits, but it was enough score six runs.
The Pirates’ victory left four teams with identical 7-11 records on the season. The Giants (8-10) finished in the third spot, the Cardinals (13-5) second and the Braves (14-4) alone at the top. The Atlanta nine will get a bye for the first round of the playoffs.
Turner also helped his own cause by scoring the winning run, after smashing a double to left field.
Pirates’ offense: Devin Brown (run), J.T. Willis (double, run, RBI), Turner (double, 2 runs), Jacob Johansen (run) and Hunter Rose (run).
Angels’ offense: Aiden Isola (double), Michael Sargent (double), Shawndell Williams (single) and Jacob Dugan (single).
Isola pitched four innings for the Anaheim nine, striking out seven. Colby Green came on in relief and closed with one strikeout.
The Angels had five errors and left five runners on base. The Pirates committed two errors and stranded four.
The postseason playoffs begin Tuesday, 7:15 p.m. at McBean Park.
