Pirates climb a notch in standings with win over Rangers
The Pirates slowed the Rangers’ efforts to catch the Braves and Phillies while improving their own chances of doing so in the Lincoln Little League Majors standings with a 7-5 win over the Texans Friday.
Brennan MacDonald was the Bucs’ hammer as he put two shots over the fence to drive in three of the Pirates’ runs. MacDonald rode out a solo home run in the first inning and brought home Nick Althouse with his second blast in the sixth.
The Rangers would score a run in the bottom half of the sixth inning but three strikeouts by reliever Matt Brown ended the Texans’ hope of a comeback.
For the Pirates, Dylan Jacobs had a double and scored. Dylan Quinn and Tommy Turner were both 2-for-4 at the plate with Turner coming home to score. Logan Shane and Devin Brown supplied the other two runs.
The Rangers got doubles from Aiden Isola and Robert Griffin with Isola scoring two of the club’s runs. Alex Nunez also scored twice and Michael Sargent crossed the plate once. Griffin had three runs batted in and Nunez brought home one.
Althouse started the game for the Bucs and went 4 1/3 innings compiling six strikeouts.
The Rangers’ Evan Risucci also went 4 1/3 innings picking up nine Ks. Isola came on in relief.
