At approximately 8 p.m. Feb. 19, Lincoln Police and Lincoln Fire personnel responded to the Lincoln Regional Airport because of a non-injury airplane crash on the north runway. Upon arrival, Lincoln Fire personnel were able to douse the plane with foam and quickly put out the fire. It was determined that the pilot of the four-seater, single-engine Piper Camanche crashed on the runway when the landing gear failed to drop before the landing, according to Lincoln Police Lt. David Ibarra. The pilot, the only one in the plane, was uninjured and walked away from the crash just as the plane caught on fire, according to Ibarra. This incident is under investigation by the Lincoln Police Department and the Federal Aviation Administration.
