Phillies hand Braves first defeat; take over top spot
The Lincoln Little League Phillies defeated the Braves 8-3 Saturday to take over sole possession of the top spot in the Majors’ Standings.
Leadoff batter Ty Williams crossed the plate three times and Conner Manley, Brennan Rozell, Kyle Easter, Bryce Bergman and Zackary Hatten all followed him home to each score a run in the victory.
Williams also rode out a solo home run and was 3 -2 at the plate, as were Rozell and Grady Manley. Grady Manley also had three runs batted in and Rozell brought home two.
The Braves’ got hits from Michael Newsom, Harry Rounds, Clayton Coats, Izack Licata and Brett Woolley. Rounds’ blow left the park and Woolley’s was a double.
The Phil’s Rozell pitched four innings giving up one hit and striking out seven. He was followed by relievers Peter Ordonio and Easter.
BRAVES 10, CARDINALS 0
The Braves blanked the Cards to with its third game in a row.
Dylan Rhodes, Newsom, Cole Cavarra and Woolley all had two hits in the contest. Cavarra and Rounds each jacked one into the bleachers and Newsom rapped out a double. Rhodes, Cavarra and Woolley had two RBI apiece.
The Cardinals’ Blake Christopherson and Chase Christopherson each had a single.
Cavarra also pitched a full game with 14 strikeouts and just two base-on-balls.
