The Valero gas station on Penryn Road was robbed late this morning by a suspect whose description is similar to that of the Loomis Star liquor store robbery suspect.

Michael Simmons, detective with the Placer County Sheriff’s Office, said at approximately 11:54 a.m., Friday, Jan. 18, the Valero station at Penryn Road and Interstate 80 was robbed by an armed gunman.

Simmons described the suspect as a male, about 5 feet five inches tall, wearing a black hoodie pulled over his head, blue jeans and carrying a handgun. He said the suspect had some type of scarf covering the lower part of his face.

The suspect stole an undisclosed amount of money in the cash register and left the scene on foot. Officers believed he went into a nearby field. Simmons said a perimeter was set up and Sheriff’s officers and K9s combed the nearby fields and a Sheriff's helicopter searched the area for hours, but no suspect was apprehended.

Del Oro High School, which is less than two miles away, sent out an email message to parents that informed them of the incident and said, “The students were never at any risk, however as a precaution, deputies were dispatched to the school for uniformed presence. Del Oro administration was in constant communication with the Sheriff’s department to ensure our students’ safety.”

Gordon Medd, Loomis Union School District superintendent, said the district elementary schools were not impacted and the district was in constant communication with the Sheriff’s Department for direction.

Medd said the Sheriff’s Office had indicated that they had a suspect contained.

Loomis Star liquor was robbed at approximately 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 16. The armed robber escaped on foot and was described as a lone Hispanic male wearing a dark hoodie pulled over his head, with a dark shirt and blue jeans and is between the age of 25 and 26 and is approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall.

Simmons asked that anyone with information call Crime Stoppers at (800) 923-8191.
