Oakmont’s Garcia rolls to win at Mt. SAC Invitational
Karlie Garcia of Oakmont High School scored another impressive cross country win by taking the Division III sweepstakes race at the Mt. SAC Invitational by 46 seconds.
Garcia, a junior, ran the three-mile course in 17 minutes, 1 second Friday in Walnut. Ashlee Powers of team champion Corona del Mar (82 points) was second at 17:47. Oakmont sophomore teammate Marisa Carino was seventh in 18:55. The Vikings finished sixth (146) and Del Oro seventh (162). Other Oakmont finishers were freshman Kylie Michaels in 42nd in (20:33) and Nyralee Chhotu (20:57) and Grace Cambra (21:03) in 51st and 52nd.
Garcia had the second-fastest time of the weekend. Division I state champ Sarah Baxter of Simi Valley ran a 16:59.
High school volleyball
Valley Christian wins twice — The Lady Lions (12-7, 7-3 SMAL) defeated Faith Christian 25-12, 25-13, 25-18 on Friday and Sacramento Adventist 25-23, 25-10, 25-21 on Monday. Emily Flood served 10 aces and had seven kills in the Faith Christian sweep, Erin Patterson had nine kills and five aces, Heather Frank had 24 assists, and Katie Urban had eight digs.
The First Tee — Bradley Peil shot a 7-under-par 65 to win the overall boys championship in The First Tee of Greater Sacramento Junior Tour event last weekend at Lincoln Hills. Corey Pereira won the boys 16-18 division with a 68, Oakmont sophomore Corey Eddings captured the boys 14-15 title with a 71, and Austin Long fired a 77 to win the boys 12-13 class.
Camille Wagg of Rocklin shot a 79 to win the overall girls championship. Sara Scarlett carded an 80 to win the girls 15-18 title with Roseville sophomore Virgie Velazquez shooting an 82 for third. Neeve Chen had an 88 to win the girls 12-14 title.
