No fireworks in Lincoln?

-A +A
Fireworks on the 4th of July have been a tradition since our nation declared its independence in 1776. Given the state of the world right now, it is even more reason to celebrate our freedom by remembering what the 4th of July means with pomp and circumstance, parades, family gatherings and topping the day off with a spectacular fireworks display. However, the tradition of fireworks may be gone in Lincoln this year due to the budget constraints of the city. I just can’t let that happen. I’ve lived in Lincoln for 30 years and have enjoyed the fireworks display at McBean Park every year as do countless others. So I am on a quest to raise $15,000 in order for our wonderful community to continue this tradition. So far, I have commitments from Sutter Roseville Hospital and a number of others who agree that Lincoln deserves a proper celebration for our nation’s birthday. I am about two-thirds of the way to my goal but need your help in raising the remainder. Time is of the essence. I am confident our citizens and businesses of Lincoln will rise to the occasion and help out. I have coordinated with the city of Lincoln to receive the donations. Checks can be sent to the city of Lincoln, The Fireworks Fund, Finance Department, 600 6th St., Lincoln, CA 95648. I will keep you updated in future Lincoln News Messenger articles as to the progress of the fundraising. Will you help me make this 4th of July celebration a reality? Thank you. Ruth Alves, Lincoln
