Lincoln will soon have a Walmart, Arco and Fresh and Easy, according to information from the city’s Wednesday economic development committee meeting. Wal-Mart purchased the Rainbow Market site in January and Lincoln’s Housing and Special Projects Coordinator Amanda Norton said Lincoln’s code enforcement contacted Wal-Mart “to have the landscaping cleaned up.” “Wal-Mart has talked about increasing parking spaces, but other than that, haven’t given much direction,” Norton said. Wal-Mart has not told the city when they plan to open, according to Norton. Fresh and Easy, a grocery chain with stores in Vacaville and Concord, will build a store in the lot next to Red Robin (750 E. Joiner Parkway), according to Norton. Fresh and Easy was originally pre-approved to build a store prior to the economic downturn but “slowed down” the building process, but wasn’t able say when that was. “They have started to pull building permits and have to update them with current building codes,” Norton said. The city does not know yet when the store will be built, according to Norton. In other news, Norton said Freedom Auto Service and Tires at the corner of Fifth and G streets, formerly Big O Tires until October when it was taken over by new ownership, “has not succeeded.” “We were approached by a distributor of tires about now they could take over that site,” Norton said. Norton would not say who the tire distributor is. Talks over the take over of that site are “in the early stages.” Arco will build a gas station in the Lowe’s shopping center, Norton said. Arco’s design review will go to the Planning Commission on April 20 for design review. Arco wants to open the new gas station in October, according to Norton.
