New location for AARP tax preparations

The Lincoln AARP Foundation Tax-Aide program’s new location for the upcoming tax season is new and is at the third floor of Lincoln City Hall. City Hall is at 600 Sixth St. This program provides free tax counseling and tax return preparation for low to moderate income taxpayers, with special attention to those 60-years-old and older. This 40-plus-year-old joint IRS and AARP Foundation-administered program is staffed by volunteers from Lincoln Hills who are trained in preparing federal and California income tax returns. Nationwide, volunteers are using computers to complete approximately three million tax returns to meet the filing deadline for 2011 returns. These returns will be filed electronically (e-file) with the IRS and California Franchise Tax Board, which allows clients to have tax refunds deposited directly into their bank accounts within two weeks. The service is available by appointment only from 8:15 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays. Make appointments by calling 878-6249 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. The intake/interview sheet is required of all clients and can be downloaded or completed online from irs.gov by entering Form 13614c in the search box and pressing enter, then clicking on the form. Copies are also available in the City Hall lobby and in the rack under the agenda cabinet in Orchard Creek’s lobby. The following items should be brought to your appointment: 2010 tax returns, all W-2 and 1099 forms, property tax bills, DMV license bills and all other relevant financial documents.
