A mother’s last wish fulfilled

Lincoln community members helped Crystal Shawnee’s family by supporting the Sept. 18 fundraiser at the Attitudes parking lot. Donations are still needed. To donate cash, mention Crystal Shawnee and family at any US Bank branch. To donate continuing contributions, such as supplies and clothes gift certificates for the Shawnee children, call their aunt Melissa Usher at 801-8186 or Pat Lay at 768-4039. A celebration of life for Crystal will be from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at Mt. Pleasant Hall. It will be a potluck. A mother’s last wish fulfilled The (Sept. 18) Shawnee family fundraiser was made possible by Attitudes Beauty Salon Keven and Nicole Siddle, Brenda Casey and facilitator Pat Lay, who put this together within approximately one week. The family of Crystal and Markus Shawnee was overwhelmed by the way our community united and made the fundraiser a success. A special thank you to Lincoln Police Department, Boost Mobile phone and Old Towne Pizza. There were many others giving their time as well as bake sales, bounce house, music by Darryl Morales from the Lighthouse, Billy Buckman, Faith and Charles Kellar, and a Kennedy Entertainment deejay. This list could go on for days with the names of all of the donors. Since the beginning of the “A Mother’s last wishes” article (Sept. 1, front page News Messenger), our whole family has gained more faith in our community than you can imagine. We want everyone to know you made Crystal’s last days less worrisome and gave her much-needed peace. Crystal made an appearance at the fundraiser with the help of her husband, sister Melissa, her mom Debbie, her children, niece Katie and Mamoo (aka Pat Lay). Again, thank you to everyone who helped to make her last days less worrisome regarding her family. Crystal got her wings and is pain free. She was at home with her husband, children, sister Melissa, her mother Debbie and her second mom Pat Lay, and many, many friends. Crystal passed away Sept. 27, 2011 at 5:50 a.m. Again, thank you, Attitudes for your love and compassion in allowing this fundraiser. Sincerely, the Shawnee family, Usher family and Lay family, Lincoln
